Synopsis:
Criminal Specs Rose robs a safe, but is forced to abandon his loot when crime reporter Jack Starr quickly interprets a clue that was left behind. The insurance company is pleased with Starr and asks him to help after Rose's next robbery instead of Batman.

Batman continues his own pursuit of Specs, but he has to abandon the chase on multiple occasions to protect Vicki Vale. Meanwhile, Starr has helped find much of the stolen loot.

Batman realizes that Specs is intentionally leaving most of the loot behind. He is keeping only particular items which he intends to use for a bigger robbery. Batman deduces Rose's target, a train carrying a large currency shipment. Batman saves the train and apprehends Specs. Starr then admits that Batman is the better detective.
