The Blackhawks battle the Nazis and take prisoners. When British officer Lieutenant Cooper comes to take custody, Gaynor snubs him. Cooper explains to the other Blackhawks that he attended a military academy with Gaynor. When Copper bested him on a test, Gaynor claimed that his classmate cheated. Cooper was cleared on charges, but Gaynor organized the other students to shun him. As a result Cooper left the academy.

Later, on another mission, the Blackhawks face the Worm, a machine invented by Professor Merson. Blackhawk devises a way to defeat it, but Gaynor questions orders. Blackhawk demands that Gaynor go to the perimeter while he executes the plan and successfully destroys the Worm.

Chuck then arrives. He had been left behind at Blackhawk Island and did some investigation of Gaynor's past. Before Chuck can tell the team what he learned, the Blackhawks hear gunfire. Gaynor has gunned down a Nazi General, his wife, and baby. They were all unarmed. Blackhawk demands Gaynor's resignation. They also prevent him from joining other military units, leaving him to wander Europe.
