History:
Coincidentally named for a famous science-fiction writer of the 1930s, Edmond Hamilton grew up on his namesake's stories, fascinated by science and the future. Gifted with a knack for coming up with advanced designs based on already existing technology. Hamilton rose quickly through the U.S. Air Force ranks, eventually becoming head of NASA's Future Planning Section.

As the result of a freak electrical accident, Hamilton found himself actually able to briefly glimpse the future, where he witnessed a catastrophe that seemed to spell the end of the world. Using his power to gain other brief glimpses of the future, Hamilton adapted futuristic technology to construct a special helmet and heavily armed uniform and, calling himself Colonel Future, set out to change the future as he had forseen it. His efforts in this direction ultimately brought him into conflict with Superman, who, after several battles with the colonel and his futuristic weaponry, revealed that the seeming disaster the colonel had seen was in fact an event of the Man of Steel's own making. Suitably embarrassed and chastised, Hamilton decided to retire his Colonel Future identity until he could better learn how to use his precognitive powers.

A future-glimpse that made him witness to Superman's apparent death brought Hamilton back into action as Colonel Future once more, but again the Man of Steel proved to the colonel that he had misread his futuristic vision and Hamilton hung up his futuristic battle-suit.

Powers:
An average athlete and highly trained hand-to-hand combatant, Colonel Future also possesses the power to momentarily glimpse the future during life-threatening situations. To implement this power, Future has built a machine that puts his life in danger for several seconds at a time, each use giving the colonel another glimpse of tomorrow. Using these glimpses to study various future blueprints, the colonel has constructed an arsenal of amazing weaponry, including a personal rocket-pack, an ultrasonic tunneling device, a protective forcefield, miniature time/space warps, a stasis-field ray, and a simple teleportation device, among others.
