History:
Some years ago, Rex Mason undertook an assignment for millionaire Simon Stagg to retrieve the fabled Orb of Ra, reputed to have great mystic powers Mason accepted the assignment, thinking the large fee offered him by Stagg would enable him to marry Stagg's daughter, Sapphire. Unknown to Mason, Stagg's servant, the resurrected Neanderthal named Java, had orders to maroon Mason in the Orb's resting place, the lost pyramid of Ahk-Ton in the valley of the Upper Nile. Attempting to escape, Mason was exposed to the rays of a meteor that was the source of the Orb of Ra, its unearthly emanations permanently altering the molecular makeup of his body. In public, Mason wears a special synthetic mask designed to resemble his original features. Recently, Mason and Simon Stagg have made amends.

Metamorpho is able to transform his body into any combination of the chemical elements, and can shape those elements into virtually form he can conceive.

For some reason, small fragments of the meteor that changed Mason to Metamorpho are capable of weakening and perhaps killing him. The Orb of Ra was just such a fragment.
