History:
The young woman who is known only as Mademoiselle Marie was perhaps the greatest hero in the French Resistance, the underground organization that battled the Nazi occupiers of France during World War II.

Marie was a farm girl who, as a child, thrilled to listen to her grandfather's and father's tales of their heroism in past wars. After Nazi Germany conquered France, Marie and her father joined the French Resistance. Marie's father, who was killed during an attack on a secret Resistance headquarters, died in her arms. (A later account purporting to describe the death of Marie's father under other circumstances actually portrays the death of another Resistance fighter whom Marie called "father" as a mark of affection and respect.)

Mademoiselle Marie commanded the boldest band of freedom fighters in the Resistance. She continually thwarted her nemesis, the German Commander Von Ekt.

On the eve of Liberation Day in France, Marie was shot alongside the St. Joan River by a man named Roget, a member of her own Resistance cell who was actually a spy for the Nazis. Marie, wounded, fell into the river and drifted downstream. According to Gizelle Revel and her late half sister Paulette's granddaughter, Paulette found Marie and brought her to her and Gizelle's home in St. Joan, where Marie reportedly remained in a daze, barely speaking. It is claimed that five months after Liberation, Marie gave birth to a baby daughter there. Two days later, it is said, Marie disappeared and she was believed dead.

Recently, the Batman brought Roget to justice, and a young woman named Julia Remarque claimed to be Marie's daughter. Julia has since taken the last name of the man she believes to be her father, Alfred Pennyworth. However, Julia is considerably younger than forty years old, and hence cannot be the baby in the Revel family's story.

There is no evidence apart from the Revel family's stories that Marie had a baby. Julia's true parentage, the whereabouts of Marie's child, if one exists, and the whereabouts of Marie herself, if she is still alive, all remain mysteries.

Powers:
Mademoiselle Marie was a brilliant strategist at guerilla warfare operations, and a superb hand-to-hand combatant. She was highly skilled in marksmanship with various kinds of guns. Marie was also a mistress of disguise.
