History:
Star Hawkins was already established as a "private eye" when his first case was recorded in 2079. This was a few months after he had finally been able to afford a secretary--and just after he had been forced by a shortage of funds to pawn her for the first time.

This was possible because Star's secretary, Ilda, was a robot--F2324 being her official designation. By this time, robots had been perfected till they had fully independent thought. Ilda was programmed to be the perfect secretary, but also cleaned Star's apartment.

Though a brilliant detective with a keen analytical mind, Star only occasionally got cases that paid well, and he was not careful with his money. Hence he was often short of credits and had to pawn Ilda till he could get a new case and redeem her.

In 2089, Ilda's model was declared obsolete, and she was slated for scrapping. However, she and Star saved an envoy from another galaxy who had been kidnapped and thus prevented an intergalactic war. Her model was allowed to continue for another ten years, though still considered obsolete.

Star's reputation grew and his capture of some of the most notorious zips (21st century slang for crooks) eventually got him assignments with the government's National Science Center, the chief law-enforcement agency on Earth.

Star's last case as a private detective, in 2092, was to stop what seemed to be kidnap attempts on Stella Sterling, great-great-granddaughter of Prof. Miller Sterling, creator of Automan. It proved to be Automan--still functioning nearly 130 years after his creation--that the agents of the League of Five Planets were after, because his body contained the manganese they needed for a weapon. The head of the gang was Bio-Room, Galactic enemy Number One, who had a bounty of 250 million credits on his head--and all this went to Star.

He used it to found, with Stella, the Hawkins-Sterling Academy of Robot-Detection, to train robots as investigators. The heroism of Ilda and Automan caused new laws to be passed that made the junking of obsolete robots a thing of the past. Robots now had the right to lead independent lives, as well as life-pairing between those programmed as males and those programmed as females. The first such union was between Ilda and Automan.

Powers:
As a private investigator, Star Hawkins carried a ray-gun. He was so good with his fists and the martial arts, however, that he often didn't need a gun to overpower criminals. His chief weapons, though, were his keen mind and Ilda.

Ilda had many attachments, including a can-opener, super-X vision (enabling her to see through walls), a telepathic circuit (usable only over fairly short distances), infra-red circuits (intended for cooking and heating, but useful against criminals when concentrated), and the ability to deliver a powerful electrical shock.
