History:
Oliver Queen had spent ten years of his life amassing a vast collection of artifacts of American Indian culture for a museum. Over that time he had mastered archery as part of his studies of American Indian ways. When an accidental fire destroyed the collection of artifacts, museum curator Morgan suggested to the distraught Queen that he explore the remains of the Indian settlement on Lost Mesa, which Morgan described as being a "gold mine" for relics. An unscrupulous waiter overheard the worlds "gold mine" and, taking their meaning literally, organized a band of criminals to follow Queen to Lost Mesa.

After arriving at Lost Mesa, the criminals encountered a boy named Roy Harper and his deceased father’s Indian servant Quoag. Quoag had taught young Harper archery, and both fought the criminals. Harper then ran into Queen, and the criminals pursued all three men, killing Quoag. Queen and Harper made their stand within a cavern that, to their amazement, contained a gigantic golden idol. Queen and Harper held the criminals at bay with their archery skills and finally escaped before the golden idol toppled, crushing the criminals.

Queen decided from this experience that it was wrong to try to hide from evil as he had tried to do by going on this expedition. Instead, he would fight evil as the costumed Green Arrow, taking his name from a remark made by one of the criminals. Harper became his ward and costumed partner, under the name of Speedy, and Queen used the cavern’s hidden gold to make himself rich. Green Arrow and Speedy became members of both the wartime All-Star Squadron and the Seven Soldiers of Victory.

In their last recorded battle together, the Seven Soldiers fought the monstrous Nebula-Man, whose energies hurled them into the past time eras. Green Arrow found himself in the time of Robin Hood, from which he was rescued by the members of the Justice League of America and Justice Society of America. But although Green Arrow had spent only a short time in the past, his rescuers brought him back to their own present, which was decades after he had vanished. Hence, Green Arrow is much younger than other men born at the time that he was. Green Arrow’s present whereabouts and activities are unknown.

Powers:
Green Arrow is one of the world’s greatest archers, and employs an extraordinary variety of specially designed arrows. Among many others are his explosive arrows, arrows which release smoke or knockout gas, arrows with strong, thin "arrow lines" attached, and arrows carrying nets. He does not shoot arrows to kill opponents.

The Green Arrow is also a superb hand-to-hand combatant, and he drives a high-powered automobile called the Arrowcar.
