History:
Little is known about Winters' early days. He is said to have been a philosopher, a carnival barker, a teacher, a wizard, a writer, a king, and more. The truth of these claims has not been verified.

What is known is that Winters studied in another realm of reality, where he dared to break the rules of society by falling in love with another student. Their short-lived union produced a son, Gowon, who, for many years, if not centuries, hated his father's uncaring attitudes.

One of the few clues to Baron Winters' past was revealed in the following quote: "I've been an adviser to an endless succession of emperors, warriors, and barbarians. I've seen power used, abused, controlled, wielded, and manipulated by experts whose sadism would repulse DeSade himself." However, since little of what Baron Winters says can be proved true, this quote may only be hyperbole.

After many years, he has settled in Georgetown, Washington, D.C., and deals with the arcane arts. His mansion is somehow connected to what can be loosely described as time-stream which allows the Baron or his Night Force to move from one century to the next with apparent ease. The Baron rarely leaves his mansion and then only in ages other than our own. It is not known why he will not leave his mansion to journey into our present time, nor why he prefers to remain inside with his cat, Merlin. Baron Winters periodically brings together a loose band of men and women, as he requires them, to solver mysteries which have piqued his interest.

Recently, Katina and Gowon have come to live with the Baron, as well as Alice Jones, a time-displaced woman from the 1930s.

As far as can be determined, Baron Winters possesses limited psychic abilities but does not seem to have any specific physical powers.
