History:
George Harkness was born in Kurrumnurra, a small town outside Melbourne, Australia. His mother, Betty. married Ian Harkness when she was quite young. While Ian was absent during World War II, Betty met and began an affair with an American soldier named W. W. Wiggins. After the war was over, Wiggins was sent back to Australia as a salesman for an American toy company. Betty and Wiggins briefly resumed their affair, and Betty became pregnant. Their son was named George Harkness, and he was brought up to believe that Ian Harkness was his father, since Wiggins refused Betty's request to go back to the U.S. with him. Ian, however, knew the truth about Betty's affair and always resented George.

As a boy, George made a boomerang in school. A classmate, Mick Wentworth, made fun of George's boomerang, and claimed even a nearby kookaburra bird was laughing at it. Enraged, George hurled the boomerang at the bird, killing it. George and Mick were both impressed by this brutal feat and became best friends. They often got in trouble with the law for minor crimes and accumulated lengthy records as juvenile offenders. When both boys were eighteen, they stole some cigars from a general store; in making their escape. George knocked down a pursuing policeman with his boomerang. Ian Harkness was determined to turn George over to the police despite Betty's protests. When Ian struck her, the furious George knocked him unconscious.

Thinking it best that George get away from Ian, Betty bought him a plane ticket to Central City in the United States. She had gotten in touch with W. W. Wiggins, who by now had taken over the toy company he worked for, and arranged a job for George. Wiggins created George's new costumed identity of "Captain Boomerang" as a gimmick for selling boomerangs, and George spent the next two years giving boomerang-tossing exhibitions, vainly trying to drum up interest in Wiggins's product.

After bombing in a performance at a fair in Central C4 Captain Boomerang tried to pick a man's pocket there. This attempt was spotted by Barry Allen, the second Flash, who went to stop him. Taking the Scarlet Speedster completely by surprise, Harkness whipped out a boomerang and threw it at him, knocking the hero flat.

Seeing how impressed the crowd was by his feat, Captain Boomerang embarked on a notorious career as a costumed criminal, clashing repeatedly with the Flash; though frequently defeated by the Flash, Captain Boomerang always returned to challenge him again with further spectacular crimes.

After the second Flash died in action, Boomerang was given the chance to join the newly revived Suicide Squad, a then-secret U.S. government operation that employed convicted "super-criminals" on dangerous missions. Captain Boomerang's service in the Squad, though often proving valuable, has been far from satisfactory, due to his rebellious nature. Boomerang once went so far as to impersonate the deceased Flash villain called the Mirror Master, in order to continue his life of crime without the Squad's knowledge.

Later, Captain Boomerang returned briefly to his home town to attend his mother's funeral, where he finally learned that W. W. Wiggins was his real father. Disgusted with Wiggins for having abandoned his paternal responsibilities. Captain Boomerang gloomily returned to duty with the Suicide Squad.

Powers:
Captain Boomerang is unequaled in his mastery of the Australian weapon from which he takes his name. His aiming ability in throwing boomerangs is extraordinary.

Over the years, Captain Boomerang has developed an arsenal of trick boomerangs that he employs for various specialized purposes. including exploding boomerangs, sonic boomerangs (which emit piercing wails), boomerangs equipped with grappling hooks, etc. His most spectacular creations have been his gigantic rocket-assisted boomerangs, to which he can strap an adversary in order to launch him into outer space.
