History:
Little is known about the past of Doctor Bedlam, a native of the planet Apokolips. He once possessed a physical, humanoid body but, under unknown circumstances, came to exist as a being of pure psionic energy. He can take on physical form by entering into one of his animates, which are blank-featured androids. Bedlam is a scientist whose specialty is the manipulation of the mind so as to create terror. He has tried several times without success to defeat Mister Miracle, one of the foremost opponents of his master, Darkseid, ruler of Apokolips.

Powers:
Doctor Bedlam exists as a being of pure psionic energy. As such, he is usually invisible, but he can make himself appear in the form of the face he once had.

Doctor Bedlam psionically commands blank-featured androids known as animates. He can control six animates at once, although with some strain. He can also project himself into one of the animates to acquire temporary physical form. When he does so, the animate takes on the physical features that Doctor Bedlam once possessed, and even the form of the clothes Bedlam wears.

It is difficult to see how Doctor Bedlam could be destroyed, since his life-force can safely exit any of his android bodies that are harmed.

Doctor Bedlam is a master scientist who specializes in devising means of inducing terror in the minds of his victims. One of his most infamous methods is his use of the "paranoid pill", which releases a gas that can drive everyone within a large office building temporarily insane with fear and hatred.
