Synopsis:
When Martha Kent catches a cold, causing the cancellation of their tropical vacation, the Kents avert catching the plague which was fated to kill them. With the Kents still alive, Superboy continues to protect them from danger. When Lex Luthor nearly discovers his secret identity, the Boy of Steel leaves Smallville.

Lex deduces the secret anyway, so he becomes close to the Kents to gather proof. However, the Kents kindness helps to reform Luthor. When he does discover Superboy's secret, he promises not to reveal it. The Kents adopt him, making him Clark's brother.

Clark and Lex move to Metropolis. Lana and Lois are both still infatuated with the Man of Steel, but Pete Ross is in love with Lana. She has spurned Pete's affections for years, causing him to turn to crime. Lana eventually marries him after Clark marries Lois without knowing about his criminal activities.

Pete sets a trap to kill Superman. Lana tries to stop him, but Pete locks her up. Lex comes to Superman's aid using a device that gives him temporary super powers. Pete is accidentally killed during the rescue. Lex also dies as a side effect of the device. Lex is mourned as a hero by Superman and the Kents.
