Synopsis:
After the death of Dan Garrett, Garrison Slate and a team from S.T.A.R. Labs arrive on the scene to take custody of the genetically engineered boy. Blue Beetle allows them to leave, but later shows up in Slate's office for answers. Slate calls security forcing the Beetle to get his answers by hacking into the S.T.A.R. computer network.

The boy was an experiment created using the DNA of Dr. Rose Beryl and Dan Garrett. Dr. Beryl was believed dead, but a corpse recently turned up with the same DNA as the boy. Blue Beetle flies to California to continue his investigation.

His first stop is Animus Explorations, a company with the equipment to conduct Beryl's experiments. Beetle finds the office empty, then is attacked by the furniture. He is taken to Dr. Beryl who is not dead, but now wears robotic armor. She calls herself Doctor Animus. Her experiments have continued, and she is creating an army of humanoids to take over the world. The Blue Beetle stops her, and Beryl falls to her death. He retrieves as much data as he can from her laboratory before it is destroyed. Beetle then delivers the data to Slate to help the boy.
