This story shows Superman's first encounter with Kryptonite. The mineral is colored red in this story, though in later stories it was colored green.

Superman learns his true origin in this story when he travels back in time as a phantom to view Krypton's past.

This story uses the word Kryptonites rather than Kryptonians to describe the inhabitants of Krypton.
