Synopsis:
The underworld concocts a plot to ruin Superman. A criminal scientist, Mr. Gimmick, has invented megatron particles which when combined cause atomic explosions. Crooks plant the particles on Superman's hands, so that when he claps the particles will combine and explode.
Superman attends festivities in Metropolis celebrating his achievements. The crooks monitor the Man of Steel using a satellite. Superman nearly claps several times, but he is consistently interrupted. Finally, he claps during a parade, and the explosion destroys Metropolis.
The crooks rejoice, but Superman arrives and explains that he faked the explosion. He became aware of the underworld plan when they first tested the megatron particles. Forewarned of the plan, Superman burned off the particles with his heat vision. He then apprehends Mr. Gimmick and the other gangsters.
