Synopsis:
Diabolical mastermind Baron X steals several atomic warheads to blackmail the world. To prove his intent, he detonates one of the warheads on an uninhabited island. Superman tries to stop the explosion, but he fails to arrive in time. When the blast dissipates, he sees Clark Kent standing next to him.

Superman believes that Clark is a phony, but several tests indicate that he possesses Superman's powers and fingerprints. Superman thinks the explosion caused himself to split into two beings. Clark helps Superman, find the other nuclear weapons, protect his identity, and gives him a belt with special weapons before revealing himself as Professor Vakox.

The belt is intended to send Superman to the Phantom Zone. Once there, it will explode, trapping Superman there forever. However, Superman has anticipated Vakox's plan and thwarts it. Vakox is then returned to the Phantom Zone.
