Synopsis:
Luthor discovers the cure for cancer and is released from prison when Superman vouches for him. Having reformed, Luthor becomes friends with the Man of Steel and works on other scientific breakthroughs. The underworld, upset with Luthor’s change-of-heart, tries to kill the scientist, but Superman protects him even giving his former foe a signal watch to summon him when needed.

As attacks on Luthor continue, Superman constructs a satellite to protect Luthor. Superman is then alerted by Luthor of another danger within the satellite. When he arrives the Man of Steel is weakened by a Kryptonite-Ray. Luthor secretly built it to kill Superman. Luthor only pretended to be reformed, to lure Superman into a trap. Finally, Luthor is able to kill his hated foe.

Crowds of mourners flock to Superman’s funeral as the greatest of heroes is gone. The underworld celebrates Luthor’s victory over their greatest foe. Supergirl reveals herself and brings Luthor to a Kandorian court for trial. Luthor is convicted and banished to the Phantom Zone. Supergirl takes over Superman’s duties, but the world grieves over the loss of its greatest citizen.
