This story is continued from Batman #453.

Synopsis:
Batman solves the Riddler's clues which lead him to a hall of mirrors. Batman saves the last kidnapped baby, but he is captured. The Riddler takes Batman to a secret chamber where two centuries earlier the occultist Jacob Stockman tried to summon a demon named Barbathos. The Riddler intends for Batman to be his sacrifice. Each of the his were intended as rituals to prepare Batman for the sacrifice.

However, the demon has actually possessed the Riddler and is using him to escape the chamber. Batman escapes and carries out the bones of Stockman's intended sacrifice. The demon who claims to be Gotham itself, is also released.
