This story introduces the giant penny that will become an often seen trophy in the Bat-Cave.

Synopsis:
Small-time crook Joe Coyne has been frustrated his entire life by pennies and coppers. When he is released from prison for petty larceny, Coyne begins a series of crimes based on pennies.

Batman and Robin meet Coyne and his gang at the scene of a robbery. Though the crook escapes, Batman captures Skinny, a member of Coyne's gang. Skinny tells Batman where his boss is located, so Coyne arranges for Skinny to be killed.

Coyne then attempts to kill Batman and Robin. The Dynamic Duo escape from Coyne's trap using pennies. Then the heroes track down the crooks. Coyne is unable to call for backup on a payphone because he only has pennies, not a nickel. Without help, Coyne is easily captured by Batman.
