Lew Farnum escapes from prison and visits a plastic surgeon, Doc Brice. Farnum then commits a small robbery. After the robbery, Farnum proves to several other crooks that he had his fingerprints changed. He offers to do the same for them if they steal for him.

When the crooks commit their robberies, Batman catches one of them. Then he infiltrates the gang disguised as Pepper Nolan. When he is about to undergo the process to have his prints changed, Farnum tries to kill him. He anticipated the action and stops Farnum. He then exposes the fingerprint alteration as a hoax, perpetrated to trick the crooks. Farnum and his associates are then sent back to prison.
