Synopsis:
Luthor begins to compile data on Superman. He has teams investigate the connection between the Man of Steel and Clark Kent. The Kent home is ransacked by Luthor's agents who also take Lana prisoner. Lex's investigation shows that Lana was present at many of Superman's public appearance.
After Lana is questioned and beaten, she is released. She runs immediately to Clark, who becomes Superman and tracks down her kidnappers. However, Luthor has the facility bombed, killing his own agents in the process. Superman then confronts Luthor only to learn that Lex has taken the Kryptonite from Metallo and made it into a ring. When Superman approaches Lex, he begins to feel weak. Lex then throws the Man of Steel out of the office.
Superman takes Lana back to Smallville and fears that his parents are dead. They are alive, but they tell him that Luthor's men took several items including Martha's Superman scrap book and Clark's birth certificate. Luthor feeds the data into his computer which concludes that Clark is Superman. However, Luthor refuses to accept the computer's findings since he does not believe a being with Superman's power would disguise himself as an ordinary man. Luthor then orders the computer and all the data destroyed.
