The origin of Streaky is briefly recapped in this story.
Synopsis:
Superman and Krypto give a performance for the Midvale Orphanage. Superman gives the children miniature capes. One boy, Paul Dexter, puts his cape on Streaky, Linda Lee’s cat. Streaky then plays with a ball of yarn which becomes entangled with the x-kryptonite chunk that gives him super powers.
Streaky flys into the room with Paul. When Paul gets the other children, Streaky’s powers wear off. When the boys arrive they don’t believe Paul. Streaky gains powers again when playing with the yarn. Paul sees him perform super deeds, but Linda, as Supergirl, covers up the effects. Paul is again unable to prove what he has seen.
Supergirl lures Streaky away from the orphanage. Together they recapture some animals which escaped from a safari. Streaky’s powers again wear off. Paul is called a liar by the other children, so Supergirl gets Krypto to help. Krypto convinces the children that Streaky’s deeds were pranks pulled by the super dog which saves Paul’s reputation.
