Comments:
The date of enlistment for Harry and his brother is given as October 14, 1941.
This story reveals the origin of the Unknown Soldier and depicts him with trademark bandages for the first time.
Synopsis:
A young man named Harry senses trouble coming for his country, so he decides to enlist in the army. His younger brother follows his brother to the registration office on October 14, 1941. Weeks later, Pearl Harbor is bombed, and the United States enters the war.
The brothers are stationed together in the Philippines which becomes the target of a Japanese invasion. Harry and his brother hold off the enemy for as long as they can. When a grenade lands in their foxhole, Harry is killed. His brought catches part of the blast in his face, permanently disfiguring him. The soldier fights like a madman, killing enemy troops until the battle is over. Medics find him and send him home.
The soldier's face is beyond repair which forces him to wear bandages. When he is given the medal of honor, the soldier declares that the fight is not over. Instead of leaving the military, he decides to become the Unknown Soldier, a special operative who takes orders directly from Washington. Before beginning the training necessary for his new mission, the soldier visits the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
