Comments:
This is the first published appearance of the Sandman. The first story of Adventure Comics #40 takes place prior to the events in this story. It probably was intended to appear ahead of the story in this issue, but was not published as such.

This story was not originally titled; the title shown here was given on the contents page of The Golden Age Sandman Archives Vol. 1 in which this story is reprinted.

Synopsis:
Wesley Dodd has invented a new ray-gun. He turns over the plans to a government agent at the World's Fair, but the plans are stolen. Wes removed a key piece of the plans prior to the theft to prevent them from being used.

As the Sandman, Wes investigates the robbery. He finds that the government agent was an imposter. He tracks down the imposter, also learning that his business associate Evarts was involved in the theft. The Sandman recovers the plans and defeats the spies, turning them over to the authorities.
