This story is continued from Fury of Firestorm #55.

Synopsis:
While trying to stop followers of G. Gordon Godfrey from burning books on campus, Firestorm is unable to act because of an inner conflict between Martin Stein and Ronnie Raymond. The inaction causes Firestorm to be left in the fire to burn while Godfrey's followers led by Jack Sawyer attack him. However, Hank Hall alias the Hawk is on campus and is able to engage Sawyer and his men, distracting them from Firestorm. The Nuclear Man is then able to get away safely and split back into Ronnie and Stein.

Stein threatens to kill Ronnie if he ever becomes Firestorm again. Ronnie realizes that by forcing Firestorm to form against Stein's will, he was violating his friend and betraying his trust. Ronnie apologizes, but Stein is still upset. He eventually agrees to form Firestorm one more time to stop Sawyer and his men from raiding the city library.

Meanwhile Hawk has armed a group of ROTC students with guns to protect the library. Commander Len Davis tries to keep the two sides apart, but violence is close to erupting. Realizing that his last appearance nearly caused a riot, Firestorm remains hidden and defuses the situation by turning the guns into water pistols and hitting the potential combatants in the face with pies. His plan works and the riot is prevented. Sawyer and the other instigators are arrested, while the Hawk escapes.

When Ronnie and Stein return home, they two agree that only Stein will be allowed to form Firestorm in the future, due to his misgivings about their continued partnership.
