Comments:
This story takes place before the Guardians' self-imposed exile.

Synopsis:
Katma Tui is dispatched to the Obsidian Deeps where there is no natural light. Her mission is to find a protector for that system to enlist in the Green Lantern Corps. Her ring leads her to a suitable candidate, but without a sense of light or color, he cannot understand what a Green Lantern is.

Katma gives Rot Lop Fan a ring and instructs him on the creation of an F-sharp bell. Using sounds he is able to use the ring. Katma then creates a costume for him with a bell symbol instead of the lantern. She then reports her results to the Guardians.
