This story must occur after Adventures of Superman #470 as evidenced by the appearance of Jimmy Olsen, who is shown to have resolved his differences with Clark Kent when this story takes place.

This story continues in L.E.G.I.O.N. '90 Annual #1.

Synopsis:
Vril Dox and Lar Gand arrive on Earth. Their ship accidentally strikes an airliner. Superman rescues the plane, while Dox lands in the ocean. Dox finds his way into Project Cadmus where he begins looking for information on his father Brainiac.

Dox was pursued by other core members of L.E.G.I.O.N. including Lobo. When Superman meets their ship, Lobo attacks him. A fight ensues. Superman then finds Dox's ship and goes into battle with Lar Gand inside Project Cadmus. The rest of L.E.G.I.O.N. follows which escalates the fight.

Eventually, order is restored. However, Brainiac is able to mind control Dubbilex and force him to trigger a reactor meltdown. Superman and Lar Gand deal with the reactor, while L.E.G.I.O.N. and the Guardian fight a group of failed genetic experiment that live in slums below the labs. When the danger is past, Brainiac reveals that he is on Colu. Dox leaves to find him.
