Linda Strauss become Doctor Fate by herself for the first time in this story.

Synopsis:
Sorcerer Joachim Hesse performs a ritual to elevate himself to become king of Fourth Heaven, a spiritual realm. Indra, the current king, senses Hesse performing the ritual. To prevent himself from being displaced, Indra sends ghostly spirits to Earth to cause havoc and stop Hesse from completing the ritual.

Nabu, in the body of Kent Nelson, senses the disturbance and wants to dispatch Doctor Fate. However, Eric is sick and unable to transform. Nabu then instructs Linda to become Doctor Fate without Eric. She then goes out to track down Hesse. Along the way she encounters Deadman, who has also encountered the destructive spirits send to disrupt Hesse.
