Nelson Swayne's girlfriend Margie is enamored with Superman. Jealous of her affection, Nelson sends a letter to the Daily Planet claiming that he can best the Man of Steel. To Nelson's dismay, the newspaper prints the letter and sets up a contest.

Nelson must compete against Superman in a variety of challenges. Using his wits, Nelson manages to win the first three competitions. When the test for invulnerability is performed, Superman faces a firing squad. The bullets bounce off his chest. Nelson faces the same test, so the Man of Steel is forced to save him. Nelson claims that he knew Superman would protect him, so the challenge ends in a draw.

Superman then learns that Nelson is competing to impress Margie. He decides to help Nelson win the final challenge. Nelson is then proclaimed the winner of the contest and earns Margie's affections.
