This story takes place prior to Johnny receiving his permanent magic speed formula. He uses a temporary formula ZYMO4N13/1 to gain his speed in this story.

Synopsis:
After developing the magic speed formula, Johnny’s professor gives Johnny a temporary formula to try out. The professor also gives the formula to his lab assistant, Charles Drake. Drake uses his powers for criminal purposes as the professor feared. Johnny brings in his evil counterpart and the professor perform an experiment which removes the powers of both men. Having successfully proven himself worthy, Johnny is given the permanent formula by the professor.
