Synopsis:
A strange ray of light appears in Gotham City. Superman and Batman investigate, and the Man of Steel steps into the light. He is transported to the planet Xeron, while a creature from that planet takes his place.
The creature, a Skran, locates and eats some iron ore, making him invulnerable with special powers. The Dynamic Duo is unable to stop the creature.
On Xeron, Superman meets Vathgar, a criminal who sent the Skran to Earth to gain powers so that when it returns he can take over his planet. Superman’s powers function differently here, allowing Vathgar to elude capture.
Superman eventually learns to master his altered powers and captures Vathgar. He uses his cold-vision on another Skran which removes the creature’s new abilities. He then sends himself back to Earth, where the original creature has duplicated itself. One is sent back to Xeron, while the other is disabled by Superman and kept for a zoo.
