History:
All his life Lee Travis fought for the cause of justice; first as the crusading young publisher of the Daily Globe-Leader and then, when that didn’t seem to be enough, as the midnight manstalker called the Crimson Avenger. Thought at first to be a criminal and wanted by the police, the Crimson Avenger made use of this deception to infiltrate criminal gangs and destroy them from within. With the aid of his Oriental assistant, Wing, the Avenger also served as a member of the heroic Seven Solders of Victory until that illustrious organization was hurled back through time during a battle with the monstrous Nebula-Man.
Finding himself in ancient Mexico and stricken with amnesia, the Avenger thought himself the living incarnation of the sun god Nuitzilopochtli until he was finally rescued by members of the Justice League and Justice Society and returned to the present.
Though only months had passed for the Avenger while in the past, several decades had passed in the present, and Lee Travis found himself a stranger in a world he had not made. Tired, disillusioned, and incredibly wealthy, since his newspaper had prospered in his absence, Travis retired as the Crimson Avenger to travel the world. He was visiting Malaysia when he found out he was dying of an incurable disease.
Perturbed that everyone would mourn Lee Travis the newspaperman when he died but nobody would even remember the Crimson Avenger, Lee leapt at the chance to go into action one last time when a boat carrying volatile cargo was hijacked, threatening the safety of the entire city. Defeating the gang that had hijacked the ship, the Crimson Avenger chose to steer the burning vessel out of New York harbor and into open water, sacrificing his own life so that countless others could live.
Powers:
Though possessing no super-powers, the Crimson Avenger was an Olympic-level athlete and highly skilled hand-to-hand combatant able to hold his own against almost any foe. In the early days of his career, the Avenger used a gas gun of his own design, capable of rendering his opponents unconscious. The Crimson Avenger’s calling card was a cloud of crimson smoke through which he made a most dramatic entrance.
