History:
Gardner Grayle was an army sergeant selected for an experiment that studied the statistically average soldier. Grayle was placed in a sensory deprivation tank, hooked up to a sophisticated computer, and a series of simulations were begun, studying his response to nulcear war and its aftermath.

After a time, the project was taken over by Grayle's unleashed subconscious. He commanded the computer to shut down the project and hypnotized all personnel into forgetting the project's existence. Deprived of his senses, Grayle tapped latent telepathic abilities and took control of the simulations. He fantasized beyond a nuclear war and its grim realities, instead conjuring up a fantasy where he and a group of others wore radiation-proof suits of armor. These Atomic Knights helped restore order to post-World War III America. The fantasies expanded to include the eventual appearance of Hercules, one of the Greek gods.

Grayle fell in love with Marene Herald, a psychiatrist attached to the project and included her as part of th e Knights' dream.

When his computer-assisted fantasies began reshaping reality and Superman finally uncovered the government experiment, freeing Grayle, the sergeant had to readjust to life in the real world and Marene's real place in his life.

Attached to S.T.A.R. Labs, Grayle uses his precognitive abilities to prevent catastrophes. However, when people do not take heed of the over-zealous researcher, Grayle dons a suit of armor, stolen from the army, and goes into action as the Atomic Knight.

Powers:
The armor Grayle stole was a prototype suit designed for soldiers to use in a post-nuclear war America. In addition to being radiation-proof, it was specifically designed to handle super-powered individuals.

Grayle's armor can project an energy-mesh force field, artificial red sun energy, and energy blasts. The armor is also equipped with an air filtering system and augments Grayle's strength.

Grayle himself, as a result of being trapped in the tank, can now predict the future, although many people do not always take his predictions seriously.
