History:
Young King Faraday always knew he was destined for a life of adventure. Too young for Korea and too old for Vietnam, Faraday dedicated his life to serving his country, a value given him by his immigrant parents.
Faraday excelled in foreign studies, which brought him to the attention of recruiters for the CIA. When Faraday was offered the opportunity, he turned it down, having already decided to accept a previous offer from the fledgling Central Bureau of Intelligence, a smaller group reporting directly to the President.
The training Faraday received was mostly physical since he had amassed a great deal of knowledge about the world through his independent studies. He was an apt student and within a year was proclaimed ready for action. Faraday was one of half a dozen "agents without passports" and was sent on what was nicknamed the "Danger Trail." During this time, Faraday ferreted out spies, double agents, arms dealers, common criminals, and lovely ladies.
Faraday traveled the world over and thrived on living by just his wits. As his successes mounted, so did the influence of the CBI grow within the intelligence community. By the 1980s. the CBI. with its unblemished reputation, was one of the most respected groups in the world. But as Faraday grew older, he recognized that he was losing his timing and his edge. He reluctantly left the "Danger Trail" behind and accepted more modest domestic posts, even becoming a regional director in the Northeast, sometimes coming into contact with super-heroes like the Batman, Flash, and Nightshade, the latter of whom he worked with frequently.
Wanting to maintain an edge as the global community grew smaller, Faraday campaigned for increased funding to allow the CBI to dominate with technological surveillance and databanks. His efforts paid off and the CBI became internationally admired and feared. As a director, he disliked sending agents around the world when he could simply go himself.
Faraday has aided many government operatives over the years and even played a behind-the-scenes role with the revived Suicide Squad when Amanda Waller first began assembling the team. He recommended Nightshade for the Advanced Team and has worked with the Squad from time to time, most recently during the "Janus Directive." As a result of that case, the United States meta-human/govemment relationship was altered. The CBI was deemed largely superfluous and was severely cut in terms of active agents and funding. King Faraday was named director and now reports not to the President but to Sarge Steel, the Director of Meta-Human Activities and member of the President's Cabinet. Faraday has been allowed to retain state-of-the-art technology and now works more closely with other members of the intelligence community.
Preferring youth to veterans, Faraday has frequently worked with the New Titans, befriending the members since most of them actually share his ideals, particularly Nightwing.
While he is allowing himself to grow old gracefully Faraday remains in top physical and mental shape and continues to throw himself into the breach where he makes a critical difference. Those ideals and his sterling record have been used time and again as an example to agents-in-training today.
Powers:
King Faraday has no super-powers, but has been rated an Olympic-level athlete. He has mastered, at one time or another, most forms of hand-to-hand combat, although he eschews martial arts for ordinary fisticuffs.
Faraday has been trained to use almost every hand weapon manufactured today. He maintains licenses to operate boats, planes, helicopters, cars, and some vehicles not yet declassified by the Government.
In addition. Faraday is also a master technical analyst and has made excellent use of the technology at his disposal. As a computer wizard, he can quickly adapt to any form of technology. This combination of skills makes Faraday one of the best equipped agents in American history and a very formidable foe.
