History:
Millonaire playboy and world traveler Oliver Queen had never worked hard in his life. He was traveling on the ship Kristina when modern-day pirates, attempting to seize control of the ship, knocked him overboard. Desperately trying to keep from drowning, Queen finally succeeded in swimming to a deserted nearby island.

To help him stay alive there, Queen built himself a makeshift bow and various arrows that he designed for special purposes. During the time he spent stranded on the island, Queen became extremely proficient in the use of the bow and arrow. For camouflage when hunting, he made himself a green leaf costume.

Finally, he criminals who had taken over the Kristina landed on the island with prisoners from another ship they had looted whom they planned to kill. Queen used his archery skills to overpower the criminals and to free their captives.

Inspired by his victory over the criminals, when Queen returned to civilization he began his career as the costumed crimefighter named the Green Arrow. A young orphan named Roy Harper became Queen’s ward as well as Green Arrow’s partner under the name of Speedy. Green Arrow later joined the Justice League of America.

As time passed, Queen’s social conscience grew, and he created many projects that benefited others through his organization, the Queen Fund. He also adopted a new, more stylish costume and grew a beard.

But a ruthless business rival, John Deleon, now deceased, had documents forged to frame Queen for deliberately mishandling Star City municipal bonds for his own profit. Queen could not prove his innocence, the business community refused to deal with him, and he went bankrupt. Deleon bought Queen’s estate as well as the Queen Fund, renaming it the Deleon Corporation.

The experience radicalized Queen. He was no longer interested in wealth (and in fact has since turned down opportunities to become wealthy again) and was willing to defy the law if he believed it to be unjust. The Green Arrow fell in love with the second Black Canary and now often works in partnership wih her. Speedy now works independently of Green Arrow.

Powers:
Green Arrow is the world’s greatest archer and employs an extraordinary variety of specially designed arrows. Among many others are his explosive arrows, arrows which release smoke or knockout gas, arrows with strong, thin "arrow lines" attached, and arrows carrying nets. He does not shoot arrows to kill opponents.
