History:
A frail youth but genius-level chemist, Mark Desmond developed a serum that would affect his endocrine glands, enabling him to grow big and strong. Regrettably, the overanxious Desmond did not bother to test his discovery before using it on himself. An overactive anterior lobe of the pituitary gland made him grow into a giant with incredible strength, while a faulty endocrine gland retarded his mental development, leaving Desmond an almost-mindless brute.

Following the commands of his criminal brother Roland, the Blockbuster committed a series of robberies which ultimately brought him into conflict with the Batman, whom he had been taught by his brother to hate and destroy. Ironically, since young Mark had been rescued from a quicksand bog years before by Bruce Wayne, it was the sight of the Caped Crusader's alter ego alone which was capable of calming the Blockbuster.

After his capture, the Blockbuster was ultimately turned over to S.T.A.R. Labs in the hopes that they could cure his condition, but regrettably, their radiation treatments only served to destroy Desmond's vocal chords, driving him even more berserk.

Escaping from S.T.A.R., the Blockbuster was thought dead after sinking into the frozen Gotham River, but the behemoth finally surfaced again in Bleak Rock, West Virginia, a desolate mining town which showed great sensitivity to his plight. After another encounter with the Batman wherein the behemoth demonstrated the gentle side of his nature, the Caped Crusader left the Blockbuster in West Virginia to live out his life in peace.

Powers:
Possessed of immense strength, speed, and invulnerability, the Blockbuster is limited only by his equally-overwhelming lack of intelligence, making him the perfect foil for other to control.

Over the years, the Blockbuster's ability to speak has come and gone at random, apparently a side effect of his endocrine treatments.
