History:
Professor Martin Stein, designer of the Hudson Nuclear Facility, was attacked by radical Edward Earhart and was left unconscious in the plant's main reactor room with a bomb and Ronnie Raymond, a captured high school student who objected to Earhart's plan to blow up the plant. The bomb exploded and Raymond and Stein were bombarded with radiation, enabling them to fuse into the super-human being called Firestorm. Firestorm captured Earhart and became a recognized super-hero. Raymond's consciousness controlled Firestorm, while Stein – telepathically linked to Ronnie in the the Firestorm phase – served as an advisor.

Firestorm was transformed by a nuclear blast directed against him while he battled Mikhail Arkadin, the Soviet super-human agent called Pozhar. As a result, Firestorm became a being who was a composite of Raymond and Arkadin, but with his own separate consciousness. What has become of Stein is a mystery.

Powers:
Through an act of will by either man, or by Firestorm's own independent personality, Ronnie Raymond and Mikhail Arkadin can fuse to become the composite super-human being called Firestorm. Firestorm can will himself to split back into Raymond and Arkadin.

Firestorm can rearrange the atomic and molecular structure of inorganic matter so as to change its form or transmute it. He can alter the density of objects, including his own body. Firestorm can create intense heat and flame, project bolts of nuclear energy, fly at great speed, create geysers of lava within a 100-foot radius and absorb explosive force and radiation into his body harmlessly. If he directs his power against organic matter other than himself, he activates a crippling energy feedback.
