History:
Ben Boxer is one of three survivors of a failed scientific community called Tracking Site. The three are a product of bioengineering that allows them to absorb radiation and transform it into an organic metallic shell. They were born with synthetic structures called cyclo-hearts, which allow the transformation to take place.

To control their radioactive body chemistry, Ben, Steve, and Renzi are obligated to wear modified space suits. Because of a quirk in the experiment, the three must remain in proximity to one another or die.

After the community fell victim to a germ called Morticoccus and the survivors left Earth in a spacecraft, Ben and his companions wandered the planet, searching for fellow humans. At one point Boxer established a laboratory to study ways to help humans regain some control over the planet they inhabit. Boxer befriended Dr. Canus, a highly evolved canine, and the two studied together for a time.

Later, Boxer and his friends found and aided Kamandi, Last Boy on Earth, in his struggles to keep the planet alive long enough to rebuild humanity's shattered society.

Powers:
To transform from man to steel, Ben Boxer must press the sensitive disk located over his cyclo-heart. His body, a natural atomic pile, is then covered in a steel coating which has extreme flexibility and durability.

A layer of air is trapped between the steel and skin, so drowning or suffocating is an impossibility. In the armored form, Boxer and his friends also have incredible strength that has never been accurately measured, nor has their level of invulnerability been measured.

Periodically the trio must undergo the unexplained rite of Evermore to prolong their lives. It has been theorized that if they perform the ceremony properly, they can live forever.
