Synopsis:
Jonah Hex breaks up a card game when he discovers some of the men are cheating. Mr. Preston, the ringleader of the cheaters takes his revenge on Jonah by having his men tie Hex up. He then smashes Jonah's hands with a sledgehammer. Preston then leaves town and warns Jonah to be gone by the time he gets back.

Jonah visits a doctor who tells him that it will take months for his hands to heal. Unable to draw his gun, Jonah uses a poker cheating device known as a holdout to conceal a derringer up his sleeve. When Preston's men attack, Jonah is able to pull the gun and shoot them.

Preston tries to kill Hex. Before Jonah can use the same trick to fight back, Joanna Mosby comes to Jonah's aid. She shoots Preston, but is caught in the crossfire. Jonah then carries her dead body away.
