This issue is the first appearance of the post-Crisis Vigilante. Though his adventures appear to be a direct continuation from previous issues, the post-Crisis Vigilante is considered to be entirely independent from his Earth-1 counterpart.
This story continues in Vigilante #37.
Synopsis:
Adrian Chase boards an international flight to London in New York City. Before takeoff, the plane is hijacked by members of the People's Liberation Army. Though he wants to go after the terrorists himself, his companion, Marcia King, urges him to leave it to the proper authorities.
Also at the airport in Christopher Smith, aka the Peacemaker. Due to the fact that Smith is unstable, his superiors, including Valentina Vostok, want the Peacemaker stopped. However, when word of the hijacking reaches him, the Peacemaker dons his costume and board the plane through a wheel well.
Dave Winston, the current Vigilante, also learns about the hijacking and sees the Peacemaker slip aboard. He follows and witnesses the Peacemaker open fire on the terrorists. When Winston tries to intercede, the Peacemaker guns him down too. This prompts Adrian into action, but he is bested by the Peacemaker.
After the incident is over, the terrorist leader Jhamad and the Peacemaker have both escaped. Adrian retrieves the mask from Winston's corpse and resumes his role as the Vigilante.
