Synopsis:
Space Ranger and Cryll are summoned to planet Zulcan where a strange device has unleashed a menace on a nearby city. The device created several alien monsters, however, they disappear as strangely as they appeared. Space Ranger investigates the device, finding it linked to Adam Strange in the distant past. Space Ranger goes to Earth and reads Strange's journal to learn the full story.

Adam's journal describes his encounter with criminal Okri-Ro. The crook found five strange devices in a cave while hiding out. Adam overcomes the first two devices and destroy the third. The last two were lost aboard Okri-Ro's ship. Adam never discovered the secrets of the devices.

Space Ranger realizes that one more device still exists. He goes to Rann and meets the descendant of Adam Strange. Together they learn from a message left with the devices that the fifth device will automatically engage, then an alien weapon will strike. They hunt for the last device, but are unable to prevent it from activating. The alien weapon then targets Zulcan. Space Ranger and the future Adam Strange defeat the weapon, drawing it to an unpopulated area. Adam decides to continue adventuring like his ancestor.
