Synopsis:
Johnny Peril attends a New Year's party and meets an old buddy from the war, Phil Camp. Phil and Johnny reminisce about a wartime adventure in which their plane crashed in the Pacific. They joined up with a group of soldiers led by Capt. Guy Follette. The captain was disliked by the other men because he worked them hard and was better than them at everything.
When a mission to strike at the Japanese arises, Johnny and Phil joined Follette and his men. They penetrated enemy lines and destroyed their targets before retreating. Pursued by the enemy, one man had to stay behind to cover the rear. Follette chose to be that man, but not before giving Johnny a note written in French. When the soldiers safely arrived at their base, Johnny reads the letter in which Follette reveals that his decision to stay behind was because he couldn't swim. The men have a change of heart and mourn the loss of their captain.
At the party, Johnny tells Phil that he couldn't read French and made up the contents of the letter.
