Superman destroys an asteroid in space, but before he can return to Earth, an astronomer, Dr. John Haley, warns him that he is now deadly to human life. Superman must exile himself from Earth. He circles the planet from space and performs his duties from a distance.
While the Man of Steel is away crime diminishes, leading Lois Lane to believe a big job is planned. Investigating further, she is captured by gangsters where she meets the real John Haley who is held prisoner by the crooks. The imposter spread the notion of Superman being poisonous.
Unable to see into their hideout due to its lead lining, Superman uses a telescope in their chimney to see the crooks. When he uncovers their plot, he returns to Earth and stops them, no longer fearing the fictious poison.
