Synopsis:
A strange black force engulfs a jewelry store in Central City. The Flash is unable to penetrate the black mass. Eventually the blackness dissipates on its own, but all the jewels are gone. When similar black forces appear elsewhere, Flash traces their vibrational patterns to those produced by the Shade's cane.
Flash vibrates his way to Earth-2 where he joins forces with Jay Garrick, the original Flash. The Shade has been robbing on Earth-1, but living on Earth-2. When Garrick confronts him, the Shade traps him in a black light force field. Barry is unable to rescue his friend, so he returns to Earth-1 in pursuit of the Shade.
The Shade continues to use his black force to rob on Earth-1. The force seems impenetrable for the Flash, until he realizes that the Shade is allowing valuables to pass through. Flash coats himself in gold. When he comes in contact with the blackness, he enters the Shade's dark dimension. He then subdues his foe. Using the Shade's own cane, Barry releases Jay and restores order to Earth-1.
