Comments:
This story reveals the post-Crisis origin of Doctor Fate. Several details have been revised and are different from Fate's Earth-2 counterpart. These details include the fact that Kent Nelson's first meeting with Nabu now occurs in 1940, in which this story is set, instead of 1920. Nabu artificially ages Kent from child to adult in a matter of days. Nabu's place as a Lord of Order is also acknowledged in this story.
This story reveals that Doctor Fate was meant to be the merging of two individuals, one male, the other female. Nabu withholds this knowledge, so Inza does not become a part of the Fate persona. As a result, Doctor Fate's power potential is limited.
Synopsis:
Sven Nelson brings his son Kent with him on an archaeological dig to the land that was Mesopotamia. Kent awakens Nabu, a Lord of Order, who had been placed in suspended animation. Nabu's release also kills Kent's father. To repay the boy, Nabu trains Kent in the mystic arts and turns him into a full grown man in a matter of days. After his training is complete, Kent dons a mystical helmet and becomes Doctor Fate.
Fate is immediately drawn to Egypt where Alexandria once stood. He rescues a young woman, Inza Cramer, from the demon Wotan. The couple form a strange connection immediately and move to America. Wotan pursues them and renews the battle. Doctor Fate defeats him again and imprisons him beneath the Earth where he won't be released for decades.
