Comments:
The arm Swamp Thing lost in Swamp Thing #5 is revealed to have grown into a mindless Swamp Thing.
This story was originally intended to run 25 pages and appear as a giant. A last minute decision to make this a standard length issue resulted in the story being split across two issues.
This story continues in Swamp Thing #20.
Synopsis:
The arm Swamp Thing lost two years earlier in Divinity, Maine has regenerated into another Swamp Thing. This one is mindless and crosses the country on a quest to find the original muck monster. It eventually arrives in the swamp near Gatorberg, Florida where it meets Ho'Tah Makanaw, an indian man dwelling in the swamp.
Drawn by tales of a swamp monster, Abby, Matt, and Bolt arrive in Gatorberg. A young boy leads them into the swamp, but Makanaw convinces them that the monster sightings were a hoax. After the trio leave, the indian shows the boy the monster and leads him to the legendary Grotto of Eternal Youth.
Meanwhile, the original Swamp Thing contemplates killing himself with quicklime. Before he can act upon his thoughts, he feels compelled to move toward Gatorberg. Upon his way, he encounters an excavation crew. A misunderstanding leads to an explosion. Swamp Thing recovers, then pursues the feeling which is meddling with his mind.
