This story is continued from Warlord #40.
This story has many allusions to the Lord of the Rings. Sarrgon Fire-Eye is an analog for Sauron. Craetur in an analog for Golem.
Synopsis:
Machiste, Mariah, and Mongo Ironhand are nearly crushed by an avalanche. Mongo uses a spell to keep the falling rocks off of them until they reach a cave. Inside the cave they meet Craetur, an imp-like creature who dwells within.
The trio then make their way out of the cave and into Zarrgon's lair. Machiste and Mongo disguise themselves as servants. They approach Zarrgon, but are discovered. Machiste throws a dagger which misses. Zarrgon then unleashes a magical attack.
The dagger then transforms into Mariah, upon whom Mongo had placed a spell. She hits Zarrgon from behind and grabs the Book of the Dead. The trio then make their escape. On the way out, Zarrgon fires a magical blast which causes Mongo to fall off a ledge and into a giant crater. Mariah catches him, but the Book of Dead is dropped. It appears to be lost forever in the pit of smoke and fire, but unknown to everyone, Craetur recovers it.
