Synopsis:
Arn Munro begins reading the journal of Hugo Danner which was given to him by a priest in the Caribbean. The journal chronicles the life of Hugo who was born in Indian Creek, Colorado as the only son of Abednego and Matilda Danner. Abednego was a scientist who developed a formula that could be injected into the womb of pregnant females. The children were then born with amazing strength and invulnerability. Hugo was the first and only child born of this experiment.

Hugo learned early in life to hold back his amazing strength when dealing with people. He was able to uproot trees at the age of ten, leap forty feet in the air, and run like the wind. Eventually he left Colorado to attend Webster University. He became a football star, but accidentally killed an opposing player when he failed to hold back his full strength.

After time away from school, Hugo enlisted in the Foreign Legion and fought in the first World War. He was the only survivor of a bombing attack. Angered at the loss of his friends, Hugo single-handedly killed an entire platoon of Germans. He thought about taking out the Kaiser himself, but the war ended before he had an opportunity.

Hugo returned to the States and took a job at a bank. He rescued a man trapped in the vault by ripping it open with his bare hands. When police questioned him, he fled. Hugo then kept a promise to his dying father by cleaning up dirty politicians in Washington. Eventually Hugo joined the archaeological expedition of Daniel Hardin, who learned his secret. Troubled by thoughts about creating a race of men with his powers, Danner climbed a South American pyramid and was struck by lightning. Hardin found his corpse and passed along the journal which Arn has finished reading.
