Comments:
This story continues in Cosmic Odyssey #2.
This story explains that New Genesis and Apokolips can only be reached with the help of a Mother Box. This idea has been proven false. Evidence of this is shown when Manga Khan was able to reach Apokolips in Justice League International #21 using a conventional space ship.
Synopsis:
Superman and Lightray thwart an invasion of Gotham City by the forces of Apokolips. One of the invaders remains on Earth and begins operating from the sewers. Batman locates the creature after it murders several people. The detective stops the alien by shooting it in the chest, but when he returns later, the body is gone.
At the same time Darkseid finds the comatose body of Metron who has learned the secret of anti-life. After compiling the data retrieved by Metron, Darkseid perceives that the universe itself is threatened. With the help of the New Gods of New Genesis, several of Earth's heroes are enlisted.
The heroes learn the origins of New Genesis and Apokolips. They are also told that there is an anti-life entity which now threatens the galaxy. They are dispatched to four different worlds to combat aspects of the entity and save the universe. Superman and Orion are sent to Thanagar. Lightray and Starfire go to Rann. Martian Manhunter and John Stewart travel to Xanshi. While Batman returns to Earth with Forager.
Back on New Genesis, the final earthling, Jason Blood, is reunited with the demon Etrigan.
