Comments:
This story retells the origin of Speedy.
Synopsis:
Roy Harper is the subject of a Newsmakers article. In an interview, Roy tells the story of his childhood. His father, Roy Sr., died while saving men from a fire on an indian reservation. The two-year-old Roy was then raised by Brave Bow, the indian whom his father had saved. While growing up on the reservation, Roy learned to shoot a bow and became an expert.
As a teen, Roy entered an archery competition hosted by Green Arrow. Roy's arrows were accidentally magnetized causing him to misfire. Despite his errors, Green Arrow took Roy in as his ward because Brave Bow was dying. Roy became Speedy.
After sharing many adventures together with Green Arrow, Roy was left on his own while Ollie crossed the country with Green Lantern and Black Canary. During this time, Roy became a drug addict. He eventually got clean. Then he met and fell in love with the villain Cheshire. Together they conceived a baby, Lian, whom Roy now raises alone.
