Synopsis:
Matter Master creates a miniature Mentachem rod to attract his original rod from the Justice League trophy room, and uses it to escape from the state penitentiary. Then, using harnessed solar and lightning energy, he lures Hawkman and Hawkgirl to his cavern hideout, where he encases them in an enlarged diamond which he shrinks in an attempt to kill them. Instead, for reasons unknown, they shrink as well, and land in a sub-atomic world called Brewhane, where cities float above ground due to poison gas on the surface.
A tyrant from Therol City named Tobolan has captured an energy-casting motor, which is to be used to create floating vegetation, and is holding his world at bay since all knowledge of weapons has been brainwashed from the minds of all residents. Hawkman overcomes the menace by siphoning some of the poison gas to that city; then, with the aid of Brewhane scientist Halostan, he and Shayera re-enter the diamond, in hopes that the Matter Master wouldn't waste the valuable gem by leaving it shrunken. He does not, and thus is captured when Hawkman and Hawkgirl are returned to Earth.
Having deduced that they were able to shrink because the Mentachem rod had come in contact with the dwarf-star material of the Atom's uniform during Matter Master's battle with the Justice League, they contact the Atom and aid him in creating an enlarging lens from his dwarf-star matter, which he had been unable to do alone. In doing this, the Atom exchanges knowledge of secret identities with Hawkman and Hawkgirl.
